Conceived as a time capsule holding memory within the present moment, the work allows past and present to exist simultaneously, not as sequence but as shared breath. At the centre stands a kinetic sculpture, handcrafted and angular in form. Its precise geometry gives it the quality of something timeless: neither entirely of this moment nor of any other, as though it has arrived from the future or from a distant past. An object that exists outside of time, even as it measures it. From this form, rotating arms of golden light trace slow celestial paths through darkness. As they turn, they illuminate what is already there: the strata of history pressed into these walls, this water, this air. Light falling on the past, making it visible. The sculpture stands in a circular reflecting pool. Seen from above, the arms describe a cross against the dark surface, their reflection doubling the geometry below. Up close, the light is warm and golden, felt as much as seen. At full intensity it presses against the face with a quality that is almost physical, encouraging the eyes to close and the body to become its own instrument of listening. Sound passes through rather than around. In this way the work addresses each person directly and privately, even within a crowd. The soundscape is composed in collaboration with the Regensburger Domspatzen, a choir with over a thousand years of history, unearthing some of the earliest choral music sung in Regensburg. At its source is Te lucis ante terminum, "To thee before the end of light", a Compline hymn adapted by Thomas Tallis (1505–1585) from early Gregorian monophonic chant into polyphonic score, sung in Regensburg Cathedral during the Renaissance. Three ancient voices drift in and out of phase, moving from dissonance toward harmony as if searching for agreement across vast distances of time. The original three-minute score is expanded into a ninety-minute soundscape, drawing out what is latent within it: voices moving like a needle through the heart of human resonance, pulling harmony slowly from dissonance and instilling a connection with the genius loci, the spirit of place made suddenly and quietly audible. As a long durational work, Inner Time is encountered differently on each visit. One arrives, leaves and returns. Each encounter opens onto a different moment in the cycle. The work does not announce itself or build toward resolution; it simply continues, patient and unhurried, available to whoever pauses long enough to enter it. The water below holds everything, a mirror reflecting what lies beneath the surface: memory, the unconscious and the invisible life of a place. To stand at its edge is to stand at a threshold between what is seen and what is sensed, between the individual and the collective, between a thousand years of voices and the breath of the person standing beside you. This is ultimately what the work reaches toward: not spectacle but presence. A space where time is felt as something held and turning rather than rushing forward. A place where we might pause together and in pausing find ourselves briefly connected, to the work, to each other and to something that has no single name. Rupture — The Mirror Falls&nbsp; Galerie Watson, Hamburg, Germany, 2026&nbsp; Sudden Rupture — The Mirror Falls is a collectable work developed from the large-scale installation of the same name: a meditation on presence and impermanence, in which the threshold between tension and transformation becomes visible. At its centre, a polished mirrored sphere hovers above a shallow reflecting pool, suspended, poised between composure and imminent collapse. Then, without signal, it falls. Water breaks. Ripples surge. Mist rises. Light fractures and scatters. And stillness returns, transformed, quietly charged with memory. Each fall is unique. The irregular rhythm of falling and stillness renders time elastic, moments and memory collapsing into one another. Drawing on Jungian ideas of the shadow self, the sphere becomes a mirror of what lies beneath the surface, an invitation to confront uncertainty, fragility and sudden change. A mirror falls. A rhythm falters. A familiar cadence is broken. Not an end, but a passage, into cyclical time, where slowness, attention and receptivity find space to unfold. Rupture — The Mirror Falls&nbsp; Schemerlicht Festival, The Netherlands, 2025&nbsp; Sudden Rupture — The Mirror Falls is an immersive installation that acts as a mirror for life itself, a meditation on presence and impermanence, where the threshold between tension and transformation becomes visible. At its centre, a polished mirrored sphere hovers above a shallow reflecting pool. Suspended in air, it captures the surrounding architecture, poised between composure and imminent collapse. Then, without signal, it falls. Water breaks. Ripples surge. Mist rises. Light fractures and scatters across the space. And stillness returns—transformed, quietly charged with memory. Each fall is unique: a suspended rupture in which the unconscious stirs and those present are confronted with impermanence. The irregular rhythm of falling and stillness renders time elastic, moments and memory collapsing into one another. Drawing on Jungian ideas of the shadow self, the sphere becomes a mirror of what lies beneath the surface, inviting confrontation with uncertainty, fragility and sudden change. This ritual of tension and release becomes a meditation on the exquisite beauty of abrupt transformation and the fleeting nature of existence. Kite places the viewer at the heart of his installations. Working at an architectural scale, he orchestrates light, sound, moving image, sculpture and performance to compose temporal spaces that disrupt the habitual and open up new modes of attention. The artwork embodies this approach: a sculptural intervention in which water, sound, light and architecture act together, transforming the theatre into a participant in the experience. A mirror falls. A rhythm falters. A familiar cadence is broken. What happens when time itself stumbles? The installation marks such a threshold: a point where the everyday loses its grip and another experience of time reveals itself. Not an end, but a passage—an invitation to step away from linear progression into cyclical time, where slowness, attention and receptivity find space to unfold. space suspended between the tangible and the ephemeral, where boundaries blur and perception folds inward. At its heart lies an invitation to contemplate the shifting terrain between self, space, and the unknowable presence of the Other. The installation is a dynamic vessel for self-reflection and collective resonance. Here, light, sound, water and architectural form converge as elemental signifiers, distilled into a dreamlike environment that resists fixed interpretation. A reflective pool spans the floor like liquid glass, its stillness fractured by the movement of those who walk upon it. Above, a mirrored sphere captures a circle of light, its arc refracting and collapsing spatial perspective in real time. With each step, the viewer disrupts the illusion, dissolving the line between what is seen and what is sensed. This is a space of dualities; hope and hesitation, the sacred and the uncanny, silence and reverberation. The work explores the architecture of feeling, how we inhabit our inner worlds, how we project ourselves outwardly and how we navigate the ambiguity of otherness, the ineffable questions that hover just beyond language. The title maps a triadic journey: Inner: the interior realm, subjective and intimate, a landscape of memory, emotion, and embodied awareness. Outer: the spatial and environmental, where light, form, and sound shape our shared experience. Other: the elusive third space, the liminal, the relational, the unknown that lives between bodies and across thresholds. Kinetic and responsive, the work operates as a live system: the installation senses, listens and shifts. An immersive soundscape, subtly tuned to the resonance of the space, moves in tandem with the presence of its visitors. Sound drifts and migrates, echoing the architecture of breath and body, amplifying the sensation of being both inside and outside of oneself. This continual feedback loop transforms the audience from passive observer to active co-creator. As participants move through the space, they become part of its unfolding, their gestures writing invisible choreographies in air and reflection. The installation challenges the permanence of structure and the presumed passivity of space. Instead, it posits architecture as a mutable, responsive medium, one that listens, reacts, and evolves. Exploring the perception of simultaneity, it subverts material, space and light to create a contemplative experience. The work prompts viewers to question what they see as true, reflecting their figures both upright and inverted within the same view. Inspired by Kite’s immersive installation ‘Inner, Outer, Other,’ this artwork translates an architectural concept to a sculptural scale. The piece features two opposing stainless steel mirrors: a large concave mirror that inverts, magnifies and distorts space, seemingly absorbing the room’s energy, and a central convex mirror that collapses perspective, revealing the entire reflected room beyond normal human vision. Its circular form offers no visual escape, while fine curves create a striking juxtaposition with the environment. As one moves around the sculpture, light appears to wake and wane like the moon, creating the fleeting presence of an eclipse . The hidden light sources, obscured by the curved distortions of the mirrors, adds to the artwork’s allure and sense of weightlessness in space. At its core, this work explores the delicate interplay of resonant objects in space, as light and sound merge in a choreography of motion and reflection. Inspired by the historic innovation of the fresnel lens, originally conceived to guide ships safely through treacherous waters, the installation pays homage to its transformative power. The fresnel lens, with its remarkable ability to focus a single point of light into a powerful beam, becomes the heart of this installation. As light refracts through the lens, not only does it concentrate into a brilliant focused ray, but the glass itself becomes an active participant in the experience, functioning as a resonator that radiates sound from its core. In a mesmerising dance, the glass lenses revolve, capturing and transforming projected beams of light and colour. As they turn, they reflect, refract, and focus the light, constantly reshaping its path and altering the dynamics of the space. This array of kinetic sculptures moves in unison, creating a symphony of light and sound, a continuous, ever-shifting performance that invites the viewer into a world of heightened perception. Each lens, acting as a glass resonator, emits its own unique vibrations, sending waves of sound as it moves. The result is a soundscape in constant flux, with the tones resonating and evolving as the lenses rotate, adding a sonic dimension to the interplay of light. The installation transforms its surroundings into an immersive environment where time seems to slow, allowing for deep contemplation of the ways in which light, sound, and motion intersect. Through its dynamic composition, the artwork invites the audience to experience the sublime, where the precision of scientific innovation and the poetic beauty of art meet in a delicate, resonant balance. The work is designed to confront your sense of self and presence in space. It is an active vessel for repose, self-reflection and contemplation. The work is open for the audience to interpret its meaning relative to one’s self, i.e. ‘inner’-being, ‘outer’- projection and ‘other’, the ambiguous and illusive questions in life that cannot be easily answered. The work explores the duality of experience, it is a place between hope and fear, freedom and inhibition, beauty and the sublime. In the installation the semiotics of the primal elements of light, water, sound are abstract cues for one’s imagination, evoking notions of time, birth, life’s journey and end, with an aim to spark an event or memory. The installation is a form of heterotopia, illusive by design and of its identity. The environment is built upon multiple layers of subversion. A liquid mirror floods the space, warping the reflection and perception of the space. A bright circle of light emanates from its core, captured by a floating mirrored sphere above. As the sphere arcs, it collapses the entire perspective of the space within itself. As you walk on the water your presence disrupts its surface, warping your perception of the space and blurring the distinction between what is real and what is not. The work places the viewer at the centre of the experience, an ever-evolving space that straddles between sanctuary and plight. In addition to the natural amplification of one’s movement on the water’s surface, an immersive sound score tuned to the resonance of the room further subverts the sphere’s materiality, movement and presence. Sound drifts in and out, migrating in the room along with one’s physical presence in the space. The concept, created by British artist, Sebastian Kite, made in partnership with UDP real estate development company and UNIT.City, sought to transform the former industrial site into a symbol of hope and future prosperity. The site was Kyiv’s newly developed center for technology and innovation, with the 60M high Beacon at its heart, broadcasting a vertical beam of light 3km into the sky, creating a positive visual connection between the past, the present and the future. The site specific installation blended light, art and architecture to create a universal feeling of hope and a point of contemplation for current and future communities. The beam of light connects the ground, its history and the sky. It can be seen from near and from across the horizon of the city. The light is in tune with the earth, timed to the rise and setting of the sun. Nevermore has the message of Beacon felt so poignant. Beacon was designed as a unifying symbol in the wake of Kyiv and Ukraine’s recent history. The chimney site was symbolic of Kyiv’s industrial era and the progress that had, up until now, represented what the world knew as contemporary Kyiv. UNIT.City was a development that sought to support creative businesses, young startups and leading edge companies competing on the world stage. Many of whom have now either fled or swapped their laptops for guns. The bright future this artwork once sought to embody now hangs in the balance, the communities it sought to serve dispersed and the businesses it hoped to inspire closed indefinitely. For many of us in the West, it is hard to imagine this kind of tragedy sweeping through our lives in the 21st Century, the profound devastation and change, with yesterday's memories still fresh in our minds. We hope through sharing this work it will continue to serve as a reminder of the strength, innovation and resilience of the Ukrainian people, their history and their hopes, and act as a symbol for the future and recovery of Ukraine. Lichtungen, Hildesheim, Germany, 2020 Inner, Outer, Other is a site-specific installation that transforms the central atrium of the Sparkasse into an otherworldly experience. The work uses light, sound, mirror, water and air to disrupt our reading of space and time and to subvert our perception of what is ‘real’. The installation acts as a vessel for self-reflection, repose and meditation. It invites you to step forward, take time and be fully immersed in the surreal environment. The title’s three words, ‘Inner’, ‘Outer’ and ‘Other’ are unique elements that exist in flux and mediation with each other. They are a guide, open entry points for you to interpret your experience of the work. As for example, ‘Inner’, could refer to the sense ‘inner-time’ or ‘being’. ‘Outer’, being of the contrary, a projection of ‘self’ and or ‘outer space’. And ‘Other’, refers to the unknown, in this instance a place experienced between utopia and dystopia. Here lies the installation. In deference to these cues, the semiotics of the elements (light, water, sound) and primal shapes within the installation are abstract suggestions for one’s imagination, evoking notions of time, birth, life’s journey and end, all aimed to spark an event or memory. The artwork is the experience, placing the body at the centre of an environment that is ever-evolving. At the centre of the atrium, a circular disc of bright white light emerges. The light is enveloped by a shallow plane of black water that reaches the extents of the room. The water creates a divide between reality and the unknown by reflecting the interior and doubling the space. The audience occupies this plane, free to walk on the water’s surface, disrupting its appearance. Hovering above, a mirrored sphere of equal diameter to the light beneath, roams the space like a pendulum. The volume of air in the room is alive, physically pushing the sphere through space. The mirrored sphere appears to be born from the light, transitioning between mirrored worlds. As it passes over the light, its illusionary warped surface reflects and refracts the light, a kind of panoptical eye that reveals the modern architecture, ubiquitous of the built systems we have created. In addition to the natural amplification of one’s movement on the water’s surface, amplified sound tuned to the resonance of the room further subverts the sphere’s materiality, movement and presence. Sound migrates in the room along with one’s physical presence in the space.
